Salzburg: Imlauer Hotel Pitter Salzburg

Just a quick review and to share some pictures of our accommodation in Salzburg…

I thought about staying in the Old Town but I felt like the hotels I found there were either too old or the rooms were too small. So I focused my search in the New Town instead, which really is not far from all the action.

We eventually stayed at Imlauer Hotel Pitter Salzburg which is located near the Mirabell Palace. The vicinity was quiet and it was a pleasant walk to the Old Town from the hotel. It was just about 1 kilometer and we enjoyed walking slowly along the Salzach River. We also walked once from the main train station, but with luggage it was quite a hassle in my opinion (my hubby thought it was okay). You could easily get a cab instead.

Imlauer Hotel Pitter is a 4-star, newly renovated hotel. Everything looked modern -from the lobby to the restaurants and most importantly, our room. The concierge was helpful and all-smiles whenever we ask them questions. We will happily recommend this hotel to friends.

Room

We booked the Family Room which has an extra large double bed, and a sofa bed which could fit both our boys. The room was spacious even with the sofa bed open the entire time. Our kids say that sofa bed looked like a hospital bed but was comfortable. The toilet is clean and two basins. There was a proper closet to put all our clothes for Salzburg, and there was ample space for our 6 pieces of luggage.

Restaurants

The buffet breakfast was limited and I remember that all of us only had a bowl of cereals, some cheese and a couple slices of fruits. This one you could do without, just have breakfast along the way. Oh but I have to mention there is a good view of the town from restaurant.

We had a lovely dinner at the Imlauer Sky Bar and Restaurant during our 2nd night. The restaurant is located on the top floor of the hotel. The ambience was not so formal so we didn’t and have to change to more formal clothes and my kids could laugh and talk as much as they want there – they just love talking so much even our teen! The boys all had Austrian beef streak (I don’t know why it had to be the same for all) which they all agreed was tender and good (and a close second to the wasabi Wagyu they had in The Barn, in Japan – but this might be a bit biased because they love everything Japanese). I had risotto with spinach which I remember was yum but a tad salty for my taste (but that just me, I couldn’t have too much salt). If I had requested to lessen the salt I’m pretty sure they would gladly oblige. Their service was superb by the way!

On our 3rd night, we had fun dinner at PitterKeller, a famous beer cellar in Salzburg and is conveniently located at the basement of the hotel. I honestly can’t remember what we had for our main dish (my hubby said schnitzel and burgers) but what I did remember was the dessert. My older son and I ordered the Salzburger Nockerl, a light and fluffy sweet soufflé. The menu and the staff said that it’s good for two people, but look at the video and you’ll see it’s more than enough for five! 🙂
